Two die as landslide hits another Calabar community

Two individuals lost their lives in Calabar, Cross River State, on Friday morning after a refuse dumpslide crashed into a building situated in a valley, according to police reports. The incident occurred at Ikot Effanga along Old Odukpani Road, and emergency services responded promptly to the scene. The debris was reported to have been displaced by the landslide, resulting in the deaths of Nfon Imé and an unnamed woman.

Their bodies were recovered and taken to the local mortuary. The Cross River State Police Command is currently investigating the incident, and residents have been advised to maintain composure and refrain from making assumptions until the full story unfolds. This tragedy follows a similar landslide that occurred just a month earlier in Ikot Awatim, where four young children from the same family perished.

The repeated occurrences of such disasters have heightened concerns over the escalating risks of erosion and landslides in vulnerable neighborhoods throughout Cross River State.
