Trump administration appeals latest ruling blocking his mail voting order from taking effect

Washington (AP) — The administration of former President Donald Trump has decided to appeal a court ruling that prevented limitations on mail voting prior to the midterm elections. This development is part of an ongoing legal battle as states prepare to distribute mail ballots.

Just days ago, a federal judge in Boston issued a decision halting the implementation of an executive order from Trump for a two-week period. The Supreme Court had previously permitted the plan to proceed on technicalities, but has not reached a judgment on its constitutionality.

Under the executive order, the U.S. Postal Service was given the authority to deny mail delivery of ballots from jurisdictions that fail to submit lists of eligible voters and adhere to a standardized envelope design. The judge, Indira Talwani, ruled that states lack the resources to create new ballots, modify their systems, and train staff to transfer voter information to the Postal Service.

The White House describes the plan as "common sense measures" intended to safeguard ballot security. The initial mail ballots for the general election are set to be dispatched on September 4.
