Stop dodging accountability for Tabung Haji failures

Political leaders Umno and PAS are being called upon to accept responsibility for the mismanagement and corruption scandals that have plagued the Tabung Haji (TH) institution. Their refusal to acknowledge these issues is perceived as a strategic move to maintain their support, even if it means risking the economic well-being of the Muslim community.

The tactic involves using narrow doctrines to sway public opinion and ensure blind allegiance, even in the face of logical reasoning. Forum rhetoric has increasingly become a shield to cover up administrative blemishes, rather than a genuine effort to resolve issues. The National Consultative Forum 2.0, organized by both parties, is seen as a superficial attempt to mask the problems at TH.

The audited financial statements of TH showed a profit, while an independent review revealed a significant loss, highlighting a discrepancy in the reported figures. Bank Negara Malaysia had issued multiple warnings to TH management about the institution's deteriorating financial health. Political figures from the ruling party were placed in key positions within TH, leading to the loss of an estimated RM10 billion.

The opposition against the Democratic Action Party (DAP) has backfired as it was once Umno's strongest weapon. Blaming other parties for the TH investigation outcomes is seen as irresponsible, as the inquiry was established during PAS's tenure in the federal government. The fear of the TH issue turning into a 1MDB 2.0, which could erode the remaining trust of the Malay community, looms large.

Calls for former Prime Minister Najib Razak's full pardon on global financial crime convictions raise concerns about the nation's moral fabric being compromised by political opium. The rational Malays, communities from Sarawak and Sabah, professionals, and non-Malay communities continue to defend principles of integrity, acting as a safeguard for Malaysia's future.
