Selena Gomez pushes back against ‘frivolous’ fraud claims

Selena Gomez is defending herself against allegations that she breached a contract by failing to properly support the mental health platform Wondermind, a venture she co-founded with her mother five years ago. The investors claim they were defrauded of nearly $1.2m they invested, alleging that Gomez, who is one of the world's most famous women with a billion-dollar brand and unmatched social media platform, should have been actively building the company as its head of marketing.

Gomez's legal team, however, dismisses the claims as "threadbare" and "frivolous," stating that she never agreed to manage the company or make the commitments accused of. Her lawyer is even seeking to have her dismissed from the case. This pushback may be an attempt to protect Gomez's reputation, but it also puts her mother, who co-founded the company, in the hot seat along with the business itself and a third co-founder.
