Sakaja Unveils Chapati-Making Machine Producing 2,000 Chapatis Per Hour

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja showcased a new chapati-making machine at the Toi Primary Kitchen, boasting the ability to produce up to 2,000 chapatis per hour. This machine is a vital addition to the county's Dishi na County school feeding programme, aimed at increasing the number of chapatis served to learners in public schools across Nairobi.

Sakaja revealed that the Dishi na County programme currently caters to 324,000 learners spread across 230 public schools in Nairobi's 17 sub-counties. The county government has devised a timetable to ensure that every school receives its designated chapati day, considering the large number of learners involved. Since its inception, Dishi na County has already distributed over 85 million hot and nutritious meals to school children.

Looking forward, the county aims to reach the 100 million-meal milestone as it continues to expand the school feeding programme. The unveiling of the chapati-making machine occurred nearly a year after President William Ruto pledged his support by providing the machine capable of producing up to one million chapatis daily in March 2025.

Sakaja emphasized the program's significance in ensuring children attend school and focus on their studies without the burden of hunger, highlighting the transition from scepticism to a successful initiative that feeds hundreds of thousands of children daily.
