Raiders’ QB Depth Chart Is Far From Settled as Kubiak Admits ‘Hard Decisions’ Are Coming

The Las Vegas Raiders are still grappling with deciding their quarterback lineup as preseason concluded. Quarterback coach Klint Kubiak admitted that hard choices regarding the starting spot are yet to be made. Kirk Cousins, Fernando Mendoza, and Aidan O’Connell are the three quarterbacks currently in contention for the starting role.

Cousins, the obvious favorite, has taken the majority of first-team reps throughout training camp and displayed consistency in performances. Mendoza, the team's No. 1 pick, has shown flashes of potential but has also made mistakes that have kept him from overtaking Cousins. O’Connell, with his NFL experience, could be the primary backup behind Cousins if the coaching staff prioritizes reliability over Mendoza's long-term upside.

The decision-making process is complicated, as the Raiders have three quarterbacks who are deemed capable of playing. While this may seem like a positive situation, Kubiak knows the real challenge lies ahead: choosing which quarterback will lead the team, who will serve as his backup, and how extensively the team should develop their first-round pick.
