Poor Bumiputeras mustn’t be left behind at UiTM, says sultan

The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has urged UiTM alumni to contribute a minimum of RM10 per month to a fund aimed at supporting future students. Speaking during a royal address, the Sultan emphasized that UiTM must continue to serve as a pathway to social mobility for young Malays and Bumiputeras from low-income families and rural areas.

He stressed that as the university has expanded and achieved success, the original target group should not be excluded or prevented from accessing higher education opportunities. The Sultan highlighted that UiTM's growth has resulted in over 40,000 graduates annually, with a network of more than one million alumni. He proposed a monthly contribution system, suggesting that a modest RM10 donation from each alumnus is manageable and can be afforded by all.

The Sultan described this as a sacrifice to ensure UiTM's ongoing development and to aid students who face financial difficulties. With the potential to generate up to RM100 million annually, the fund could be utilized for various university projects and to support both new and existing students in need.
