Pinnick Says Not Interested in NFF’s Normalisation Committee

Former NFF President Amaju Pinnick has expressed his disinterest in serving on the proposed Normalisation Committee, asserting Nigeria's abundance of capable individuals to lead the football federation out of crisis. Currently serving as Deputy Chair of FIFA's Men’s Competitions Committee and Presidential Adviser to the CAF President, Pinnick swiftly responded to inquiries about his willingness to lead the committee or vie for the NFF presidency post-committee tenure.

His response was clear. Pinnick, who served as NFF President from 2014 to 2022, was previously rumored to be a potential candidate for the committee following the resignation of Ibrahim Gusau and other Executive Committee members. However, when faced with media reports linking him to the committee, Pinnick firmly dismissed the speculation, emphasizing that he has no interest in returning to Nigerian football leadership through the proposed arrangement.

"I'm not interested," he stated. He further added: "Nigeria is a country blessed with eggheads in all areas of human endeavour, so the country will not lack leadership in football." Pinnick, known for his active role in international football administration since leaving the NFF presidency, stressed that he has transitioned from domestic football leadership.

"I have done my part and since moved on, but will provide support and intervention when necessary, in whatever capacity, when called upon," he emphasized. He added: "I am enjoying absolute peace with my family while consolidating and recalibrating my various businesses." This statement effectively dismisses speculation about Pinnick's possible return to domestic football administration as head of the proposed Normalisation Committee or his quest for the NFF presidency upon the committee's completion of its mandate.

His stance arrives at a crucial time for Nigerian football, with stakeholders eagerly awaiting decisions on the committee's composition, mandate, and timeline following recent turmoil within the NFF. The immediate challenge before authorities will be to identify individuals with the necessary experience, credibility, and capacity to restore confidence, stabilize the federation, and prepare the ground for a credible electoral process.

However, for Pinnick, there appears to be no inclination to take another leadership role in Nigerian football. He has completed his part and moved on, firmly declaring himself "not interested" in assuming another leadership position.
