Over 160 “Shaheds,” Half Of Them Jet-Powered: Details Of Russia’s Massive Attack From Air Force

On August 27, Russia initiated an ongoing barrage of attacks on Ukraine, with Kyiv bearing the brunt of Shahed drone assaults. By August 28, Russian forces had deployed 164 Shahed-type strike UAVs, half of which were jet-powered, alongside Gerbera drones and Parody decoy drones, according to UATV English and data from Ukraine's Air Force. The drones were launched from Oryol, Bryansk, Millerovo in Russia, as well as temporarily occupied Donetsk and Kherson in Crimea.

Preliminary reports indicate that air defenses repelled or neutralized 137 enemy Shahed, Gerbera, and other drone types across Ukraine's north, south, east, and center. Sixteen locations suffered hits from enemy air attack assets, with debris from downed drones found at four locations. The successful defense was credited to Ukraine's aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups.

On the same day, Russia targeted a hypermarket in Kharkiv with a state-of-the-art camera-equipped drone, causing significant concern. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly called for the delivery of additional interceptor missiles to bolster Ukraine's air defense capabilities.
