Nigerians want cheaper fuel – Atiku tackles to Tinubu

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, has criticized President Bola Tinubu's recent call for governors to lower transportation costs for Nigerians. Tinubu recently invited governors from across the country to discuss the issue, ordering the construction of 500 additional Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and urging governors to implement cheaper fares.

In response, Atiku dismissed Tinubu's endeavor as a "desperate and belated response" to a cost-of-living crisis exacerbated by his own administration. He stated that Nigeria cannot endure another four years of failure and that the administration's energy policy has been disconnected from the daily lives of Nigerians. Atiku further highlighted that Nigerians had been pleading for relief for over three years, warning that Tinubu's removal of fuel subsidies without a cushioning framework led to soaring transport expenses, soaring food prices, and struggling businesses.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu's party, had previously dismissed Atiku's proposal for reinstating fuel subsidies as a "cheap" political tactic. In a recent BBC interview, Atiku pledged to eliminate northern borders and revitalize southern ports if elected in 2027.
