Nepal orders rescuers to safety as overflow brings new flood risks

Nepal has ordered rescuers to evacuate to safety following a new flash flood that could lead to additional flooding. The disaster occurred after a debris dam burst in Tibet on Friday, prompting emergency teams to recover 472 bodies and search for over 1,400 missing people. The flood, which has caused significant damage in Nepal and Tibet, was triggered by a glacial collapse releasing a massive flow of icy debris.

Nepali police urged all rescuers to immediately move to a safe location due to the risk of renewed flooding. In Tibet, China had paused its rescue operation at the hardest-hit area due to fears of more flooding. The Nepali military located some people trapped in the Trishuli 3A hydropower project tunnel, but efforts continue to rescue more than 100 individuals still trapped.

Families, including Kula Priya whose son is missing, anxiously await news of their loved ones. Over 910 people, including 517 foreign tourists, are unaccounted for, with the majority of missing foreigners originating from India.
