Nearly 100 dogs rescued from home in Fort McMurray

On Tuesday, bylaw officers in Fort McMurray, Alberta, seized 97 dogs from a residence following a search warrant execution. The dogs, all small breeds, were found living inside the home, and their rescue marks one of the largest operations the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has ever undertaken.

Bylaw services manager Aaron Anderson revealed that the rescued dogs are now under the care of the Fort McMurray SPCA, which will oversee their transition to adoption. The agency cautioned the public against rushing to visit the animals, emphasizing that such visits could cause undue stress and hinder the team's efforts to ensure the dogs' safe settling and care.

Each rescued dog will undergo a medical examination, potentially involving vaccinations and spaying or neutering procedures. The Fort McMurray SPCA anticipates that the animals will not be ready for adoption for several months. The municipality has advised residents to report any animal welfare concerns and has offered assistance to pet owners facing difficulties in caring for their animals. Surrendering a pet, though difficult, is highlighted as a crucial step for the animal's well-being.
