Mike Vrabel Reveals Real Reason Behind Kayshon Boutte Trade

Mike Vrabel, head coach of the New England Patriots, shed light on the reasoning behind the team's recent trade for rookie Kayshon Boutte. The trade, finalized on Monday, saw the Patriots sending Boutte to the Houston Texans in exchange for safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick. The move made sense for Houston, who had recently lost second-year player Jayden Higgins, who many believed was poised to become the team's No. 2 receiver. However, according to Vrabel, there may have been additional factors at play.

Vrabel revealed during a post-game press conference that the Patriots were in a position of having some depth in that particular area. He clarified that while it may have been the case that Boutte would have been inactive due to the receiver depth the Patriots had, this was largely because Boutte was not playing special teams. In actuality, Boutte had put up impressive numbers during his two seasons with New England, averaging 13.7 yards per catch in 2024, and even more so in 2023, averaging 16.7 yards per catch on just 33 catches.

Notably, Boutte also excelled during the Patriots' Super Bowl run, catching nine passes for 168 yards and a touchdown in four postseason games, including a standout 75-yard touchdown reception against the Texans in the divisional round.

With this trade, Boutte is now set to join the Texans, where he has a genuine opportunity to claim the starting No. 2 receiver spot alongside Nico Collins.
