Mike Vrabel addresses Christian Gonzalez’s contract frustrations

Week 1 approaches and star cornerback Christian Gonzalez remains without a contract extension, causing him frustration according to his recent comments to reporters. Despite expressing his frustration, Gonzalez emphasized that he is focused on the season and competing to improve his skills. Head coach Mike Vrabel, when asked about Gonzalez's comments, showed no reaction but acknowledged the position he might be in, expressing understanding for the difficulty of the situation.

Vrabel shared that he has spoken with Gonzalez, and while he understands the challenge, he encouraged the team's players to maintain a positive attitude and remain patient while working towards an agreement. Gonzalez is seeking a contract that would make him the highest-paid cornerback in the league, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Patriots haven't been able to come to a mutually beneficial agreement with Gonzalez, and his contract demands are significantly higher than what the team offered to corner Devon Witherspoon for $33 million annually.

Schefter stated on The Pat McAfee Show that the two sides are far apart in terms of their contract offers, and there is no indication that this gap is narrowing. Consequently, Gonzalez's disappointment in the situation is evident.
