Marseille hoping for a higher fee for Igor Paixǎo after Sunderland’s first offer

Olympique de Marseille are aiming to obtain a higher sale price for Brazilian forward Igor Paixão after receiving a preliminary bid from Sunderland, according to an L'Équipe report. The club is eager to offload the former Feyenoord striker in the penultimate days of the transfer window, despite the opposition of Bruno Genesio, who would prefer to retain the forward at Stade Vélodrome.

Nonetheless, Frank McCourt and his superiors acknowledge the need for a sale and have identified 26-year-old Paixão as a prime target due to his market value and the interest from other clubs. The young Brazilian international is also attracting attention from other Premier League teams and Saudi Arabian sides, in addition to Sunderland.

With OM striving to secure a greater fee, Sunderland remains in a strong position to sign the wide man, pending any subsequent bid before the close of the summer window.
