Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh: A man was swept away with his bicycle while attempting to cross a flooded culvert during heavy rainfall in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh on Friday. Miraculously, the man knew how to swim and managed to reach the riverbank safely, but his bicycle was carried away by the strong current. A video of the incident has been shared on social media, showing the overflowing culvert and the man being carried downstream.

The incident occurred near a petrol pump on the Rannod-Mayapur road, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Rannod police station. The area had been experiencing continuous rain for nearly 24 hours, causing the water to flow rapidly over the culvert. Despite the strong current, the man tried to cross the culvert on his bicycle.

As he reached the middle of the water, the current pushed the bicycle off balance, causing both the man and his bicycle to be swept away. Onlookers watched as the man struggled in the water, using his swimming skills to navigate towards the riverbank. After some effort, he managed to reach safety. The continuous rainfall has caused rivers, drains, and culverts across Shivpuri to overflow, making it dangerous for people to cross them on foot or by bicycle.

Authorities have advised people not to attempt crossing roads or culverts when water is flowing over them, particularly while riding a bicycle or other vehicles. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of crossing strong water currents during heavy rain. The man's life was saved, but his bicycle was lost in the river.
