Man shoots dog dead in Shivamogga

In a shocking incident in Shivamogga district, police have arrested a man for allegedly shooting his own pet dog dead, after it was attacked by a neighbor's dog. Lingaraju, a resident of Channapura-Nadavalli, was taken into custody on Thursday, according to Anandapura police. The dog attack prompted Lingaraju to use a homemade firearm to kill the animal.

Police registered a case under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses animal cruelty, in addition to provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Arms Act. Lingaraju was also found not to have a valid license for the firearm. He has been placed in judicial custody.
