Maluma Is Loco por Volver to His Childhood: ‘I Really Wanted to Go Back to That Kid’

Maluma, the Colombian superstar, has always been fascinated by cars. As he prepares to release his album Loco X Volver and become a father of two, his love for automobiles has taken on a deeper personal significance. The cover of the album features a photo of Maluma as a child, highlighting his desire to reconnect with his past.

At around six or seven years old, Maluma received a significant gift from his uncle—a box of Hot Wheels cars and a track, a revelation that set the course for his lifelong passion for automobiles. Today, Maluma not only collects cars but also has a studio designed like a garage, where he creates music while surrounded by his automotive interests.

This connection to his youth inspired a custom Hot Wheels die-cast, a Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 that symbolizes his Colombian heritage. The car, nicknamed "La Matrona" by his family for its ability to take them anywhere, evokes fond memories of his childhood trips to farms with his parents. Maluma expressed his admiration for the car, noting its nostalgic value.

His collection also includes Porsche Hot Wheels cars, with the Porsche 911 being his favorite from his childhood. In 2012, Maluma's appearance on Peru's Combate helped shape his career and personality. He credits the experience for strengthening his connection with fans in Peru. Now, fatherhood has altered his perspective on his career, stating, "I have no expectations anymore with anything I do.

I'm making music because I love making art." Looking ahead, Maluma will embark on a world tour in 2027 and 2028, following his global partnership with Fénix Entertainment. The tour will mark his first since the 2023-24 Don Juan Tour. The album Loco X Volver, his seventh studio release, returned Maluma to his Colombian roots and has already produced two No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart with "1+1" featuring Kany García and "Tu Recuerdo."

To celebrate his youthful passion, a custom Hot Wheels Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 inspired by his childhood is part of the 2026 Global Legends Collection and available for preorder. Additionally, a Hot Wheels pop-up featuring life-size cars will run at The Brig in Venice, California, from August 28-30.
