Malaysia’s export volume jumps 8.1pc in July, import volume up 14pc

In July 2026, Malaysia's export volume jumped by 8.1 per cent, while its import volume surged by 14 per cent, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). The export unit value index also rose by 0.6 per cent month-on-month, reaching 163.6 points compared to 162.6 points in the previous month. The increase was attributed to higher indices in mineral fuels, manufactured goods, and machinery and transport equipment.

On an annual basis, both the export unit value index and the export volume index expanded by 8.1 per cent and 27.7 per cent, respectively.

Conversely, Malaysia's import unit value index declined by 1.2 per cent, dropping from 130.8 points to 129.2 points in July 2026. The import volume index, however, rose by 14 per cent from July's previous month, driven by increases in food, machinery, and transport equipment. The seasonally adjusted import volume index grew by 13.2 per cent to 199.7 points from 176.4 points in the same period.

Compared to the same month last year, the import unit value index increased by 3.4 per cent, while the import volume index expanded by 25.0 per cent. Malaysia's terms of trade improved by 1.9 per cent month-on-month to 126.6 points in July 2026, up from 124.3 points, primarily due to rises in mineral fuels, manufactured goods, and inedible crude materials.

Year-on-year, Malaysia's terms of trade climbed by 4.5 per cent, rising from 121.1 points to 126.6 points.
