The upcoming stage of the 81st edition of La Vuelta a España will pass through Alicante province on Sunday, August 30, with a significant Guardia Civil security operation in place. The ninth stage will commence in Villajoyosa and conclude with a challenging climb to the summit of Alto de Aitana. Led by the Guardia Civil's Dámaso Guillén Mobility and Road Safety Unit, the specialist team features 132 officers backed by 59 motorcycles, 28 off-road and support vehicles, and one helicopter. Four officers from the unit were either born in Alicante or are stationed there.
The Alicante Guardia Civil will supply additional support, including 40 traffic officers in 38 cars and motorcycles, 44 public-security officers and 21 vehicles from Calpe, Ibi and San Vicente del Raspeig divisions, 16 officers and five off-road vehicles from Alicante’s Citizen Security Unit, and the PEGASO specialist aviation and drone team. Other Guardia Civil units will also contribute personnel.
A public exhibition showcasing vehicles, equipment, and specialist materials used by various units will be held at Parque Vuelta in Benidorm's Avenida Europa. The exhibition, open to the public free of charge, is set to take place as part of the preparations for the stage. The Guardia Civil will officially present the mobility and road safety team at Paseo José María Esquerdo.
