Mahama backs crackdown on airport workers begging visitors for tips

Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Ghana Airports Company Limited, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, and other airport agencies for taking strong action against airport workers seeking tips from visitors. Mahama stated that this practice tarnished Ghana's image among international visitors and urged all airport workers to maintain professionalism and courtesy.

At a ceremony on August 27, Mahama attended the groundbreaking for a new multi-tiered airport complex at the Accra International Airport. He emphasized that every interaction between visitors and airport workers contributes to the country's overall image. The GACL has already terminated two car park workers who were allegedly soliciting tips from passengers as part of this campaign.

The new development will feature two hotels, over 2,000 parking spots, a pedestrian bridge connecting to the terminal, a shopping mall with a food court and retail areas, a sky lounge, and a sky observatory for aircraft viewing.
