Law profession no longer noble, says VDM

Social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan, has expressed his disapproval of Nigeria's legal profession, contending that it is no longer considered a noble career path in the country. During an appearance at the Nigerian Bar Association's 66th Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, VeryDarkMan participated in a panel discussion on insecurity and addressed issues affecting Nigerians.

His presence sparked controversy among some members of the legal community, who questioned the decision to invite him. However, VeryDarkMan clarified his intentions in a subsequent video, stating that his goal was to provide a platform for Nigerians whose concerns were frequently overlooked. He pointed out that he was speaking on behalf of the voiceless and marginalized segments of society.

In response to the criticism, VeryDarkMan shifted his focus to the legal profession itself, discrediting the notion that law is a noble profession in Nigeria. He argued that the field has become increasingly impoverished and that a significant number of lawyers are either not practicing or facing challenges in securing employment.

VeryDarkMan lamented that law is among the poorest professions in the country, with many graduates unable to find jobs or actively engage in legal practice. He questioned the high number of law graduates each year and the limited opportunities available to them, using the example of graduates who end up selling bedsheets. The activist's comments came as his participation in the NBA conference continued to generate mixed reactions from the legal profession.
