Kirinyaga Woman Rep Njeri Maina wants probe into violent political rally

Kirinyaga County Woman Representative Njeri Maina is calling for a comprehensive investigation into violent incidents that took place during a political rally in the region. The allegations involve former gubernatorial candidate Wangui Ngirici. The violence reportedly occurred in Kiaragana and Kiamumbi on August 23, resulting in several people being injured, including one individual who sustained critical knife wounds.

Maina stated that the incidents left residents feeling fearful and called for the National Police Service and the Director of Criminal Investigations to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence. She emphasized that the events should not be viewed as ordinary political disagreements and warned that such incidents could undermine residents' ability to participate freely in political activities.

Maina cautioned against the growing use of violence in political competition and cautioned the youth against being used to instigate confrontations. She urged political candidates to campaign peacefully across the county and stressed that the upcoming 2027 General Election should see a peaceful political competition.
