Karnataka to seek farm loan waiver from Centre

Karnataka is planning to request a farm loan waiver from the Central government, following the declaration of 101 taluks as drought-affected in the state, Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara announced. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, the Deputy CM reiterated that this request could be addressed comprehensively if the Union government announces a loan waiver, similar to the ₹ 72,000 crore waiver implemented by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Parameshwara urged the Centre to consider the matter, stating that the drought situation in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar could also benefit from such a decision. Central teams will soon visit Karnataka to conduct an assessment, following which drought relief will be released.
