Kalonzo calls for release of Ksh3B Amboseli revenue to Kajiado

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has urged the national government to adhere to the revenue-sharing agreement for Amboseli National Park, demanding the release of Ksh3 billion in earnings owed to Kajiado County. In a recent post, Musyoka highlighted that despite the Maa community's strong ties to the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya party, they continue to be "at the back of the queue" for park revenues.

The dispute arises from the Deed of Transfer of Management Functions signed on October 14, 2025, and gazetted on October 24, 2025, which outlines the division of responsibilities between Kajiado County and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) for the park's management. The agreement stipulates that Kajiado County should receive a 50-50 share of the park's revenue for the 2026/27 financial year, escalating to 70% in 2027/28 before becoming 100% from 2028/29.

However, challenges persist in implementing the agreement, with KWS staff reportedly denying entry to county officials collecting their share following the transition period's end on June 30, 2026. Musyoka emphasized that the community has protected Amboseli for generations and deserves the financial benefits it generates, calling for the government to honor the signed and gazetted agreement instead of making new promises.
