Jonathan Kuminga Rejected $90M In Guaranteed Money From Warriors And Lakers To Sign $12M Deal With Timberwolves

Jonathan Kuminga, a 23-year-old Atlanta Hawks forward, has reportedly rejected approximately $90 million in guaranteed money from the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers in favor of a two-year contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves for $12 million. Kuminga's decision began in 2025 when the Warriors offered him a three-year, $75.2 million contract with a team option for the third season, which left him with around $48.3 million in guaranteed money.

The Warriors also provided him a $54 million fully guaranteed contract, but Kuminga sought greater compensation and control over his future. Despite signing a $46.8 million two-year contract with the Warriors that included a $24.3 million team option, Kuminga's market fell out of favor after his trade to the Hawks. The Hawks declined his $24.3 million team option, leaving Kuminga in free agency.

The Lakers, seeking a starting power forward, offered him more than $12 million annually over three years, but Kuminga rejected the offer to sign with the Timberwolves. Kuminga's bet on himself has cost him tens of millions of dollars in guaranteed money, but he has consistently prioritized holding onto his future options over securing immediate guarantees.
