Jeju police checking officer's shift report over alleged mishandling of missing person case

The Jeju Provincial Police Agency has announced that they are investigating a night shift report written by an officer suspected of mishandling a missing person case on Jeju Island. According to officials at the Jeju police agency, the officer is accused of omitting crucial information from the shift report he submitted during an evening shift in May, when he received a missing person report concerning a woman in her 30s.

Typically, missing person cases, particularly those involving women, are reported to higher authorities, often all the way to the Jeju police chief, due to the potential involvement of criminal activities. However, the officer in question failed to report the missing person case to his superiors, as he allegedly closed the case without verifying the victim's safety. The officer was apprehended earlier this week following the discovery of the victim's body on Monday at a tree farm near her residence on the island.

Furthermore, the officer is suspected of deleting the victim's data from the missing persons' profile list, while simultaneously inserting false information claiming that she had died in a car accident.
