Japan PM sends condolence message to China's Xi over flash flood

A significant rise in the death toll from flash floods has been reported in Nepal and Tibet, as rescuers continue their efforts to locate hundreds of missing individuals. According to police in Nepal, the death toll has now reached 469, up from the previous count of 390, with an additional three fatalities in Tibet. The disaster has also left over 1,400 people missing in both regions following Wednesday's catastrophic event.

Authorities have reported that hundreds have already been rescued, with dozens receiving medical treatment in the capital city of Kathmandu. Among the missing are foreigners from various countries, primarily trekkers and pilgrims. One elderly survivor was taken to a makeshift hospital at the army's Maithali barracks for treatment after being rescued from the flash flooding in Nepal's Nuwakot district on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
