Japan Approves Grant to Build Vocational Training Institution for Pakistani Women

Japan has granted $53,419 (Rs14.8 million) to construct a women's vocational training institute in Chakwal district, Punjab. The grant, awarded to the Moawin Foundation through Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects programme, aims to enhance skills-development for women in rural areas and promote economic independence.

The ceremony signing the contract was held at the Embassy of Japan in Islamabad between Japanese Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi and a Moawin Foundation representative. The project, titled "The Project for the Construction of Women’s Vocational Training Institute in Village Dulmial, District Chakwal," will establish a dedicated facility in Village Dulmial, offering courses in dressmaking, stitching, and fashion design.

The institute, built on donated land, is projected to train around 240 women annually, providing them with practical skills for stable livelihoods. Rural women often encounter greater challenges in acquiring skills and securing income due to limited employment prospects and economic or environmental constraints. Ambassador Akamatsu expressed optimism that the institute would benefit women and families in the community for years to come, acknowledging the community's land contribution and Japan's commitment to women's empowerment and human security.

The Moawin Foundation, active in Pakistan, has expanded its vocational training programs to reach more underserved populations. The Japanese government reaffirmed its dedication to supporting grassroots-level human security initiatives in Pakistan, highlighting the Chakwal project's potential to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Japan and Pakistan.
