It will always be Lake Ontario, Americans reject Trump’s rename

President Donald Trump's attempt to rename Lake Ontario as "Lake America" has been met with widespread rejection from Americans living near the lake. In a controversial move, Trump signed an executive order directing the US Department of the Interior and the US Board on Geographic Names to formalize the change within 30 days. However, residents along the New York shoreline of Lake Ontario have made it clear that they will continue calling the lake by its traditional name.

Sharee Turpin, a local resident from Gates, New York, expressed disbelief at the proposed name change, stating that her family has visited the lake every summer since childhood and they would never accept the name "Lake America". Similarly, Monroe County Executive Adam Bello rejected Trump's order, declaring that "Lake Ontario will remain Lake Ontario."

The governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, also voiced her disagreement with the proposal, stating that "New York won't be calling it that." Even Republican Rep. Tom Tiffany, who supports Trump in his gubernatorial bid, disagreed with the decision, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the original names of the Great Lakes.
