Is Chevron (CVX) Outperforming TotalEnergies (TTE) in the Energy Race?

Chevron and TotalEnergies are expanding their presence in Sub-Saharan Africa, with Chevron making a significant oil and gas discovery in Angola's Block 0 on August 17. The 105-4X exploration well has revealed over 600 meters of column and 90 meters of net pay in the Pinda reservoir. Chevron's subsidiary CABGOC operates this asset alongside Sonangol E&P, Azule Energy, and TotalEnergies.

This discovery adds to Chevron's growing footprint in the region, which includes projects in Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, and Namibia. For Q2 2026, Chevron reported $70.1 billion in revenue and $12.1 billion in net income, while TotalEnergies generated $9.8 billion in cash flow and $6.0 billion in adjusted net income.

Both companies maintain strong balance sheets with identical debt-to-equity ratios. Chevron outperformed TotalEnergies in terms of top-line figures, bottom-line results, and capital efficiency.
