Hydro CEO leaving job two years after appointment

Allan Danroth resigned as president and CEO of Manitoba Hydro after only two years on the job, a surprise to many. His departure came as he led the corporation through significant changes, such as improving safety culture and overhauling outdated IT systems. Danroth left for personal reasons, according to board chair Jamie Wilson, who also named Hal Turner as interim president and CEO.

Turner, who has worked at Hydro since 1995, expressed appreciation for Danroth's leadership during his tenure. The CEO turnover has raised questions about stability at the Crown corporation, especially as it faces a projected energy shortfall, $25 billion in debt, and aging infrastructure. The Public Utilities Board is currently hearing testimony about Hydro's plans for the next decade, including costly natural gas-powered turbines. Some critics have questioned the NDP government's ability to maintain stability amid this turmoil.
