Fans of Patricia Highsmith and Dame Helen Mirren are thrilled by the release of the trailer for Anton Corbijn's new film, A Taste for Murder. The movie features Alden Ehrenreich, Olivia Cooke, and an unrecognizable Helen Mirren. The story revolves around a desperate agent, played by Ehrenreich, who travels to the Swiss countryside to persuade Highsmith, portrayed by Mirren, to pen a final installment of her iconic Ripley series. However, as with many tales from Highsmith's universe, the plot takes a sinister turn.

The film is an adaptation of Joanna Murray-Smith's 2014 play, Switzerland. Switzerland envisions Highsmith as a reclusive figure in the Alps, carefully guarding a trove of weapons and secrets after a lifetime of writing mysteries. The play previously ran in Bristol, Sydney, and Los Angeles. Murray-Smith is penning the screenplay for the film adaptation.

This project joins a long list of Ripley adaptations, with renowned directors such as René Clément, Wim Wenders, and Anthony Minghella attempting their hand at the tale of the notorious con man. The last cinematic interpretation of Ripley can be found in a Netflix adaptation starring Andrew Scott. Nonetheless, the creators of A Taste for Murder are determined to breathe new life into this classic story by focusing on Highsmith's character. The film is set to be released in theaters on October 23.
