Flying through Dubai Airport soon? Here’s what happens to laptops and liquids

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is introducing advanced security scanners that will permit travelers to keep laptops, liquids and other items in their hand luggage during security checks. This upgrade, part of a broader technology overhaul, aims to streamline security procedures and reduce passenger inconvenience. The new scanners, described by Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths as "very successful" during trial phases, will allow for the inspection of baggage contents without requiring passengers to remove items from their bags.

Griffiths explained that the technology is gradually replacing older security systems across the airport, including both Terminal 1 and other areas, with the goal of uniform convenience for all passengers. The initiative is part of a strategic effort to enhance passenger flow without necessitating additional airport infrastructure, as DXB has already seen substantial growth without expanding its physical footprint.

The upgraded security process is expected to significantly reduce the friction points typically associated with airport security, contributing to a more efficient and enjoyable travel experience.
