Family kicks as DSS rearrests Miyetti Allah leader after release from EFCC

On Friday, Department of State Service operatives swiftly removed the national president of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) premises, following his release by the anti-graft agency. This comes as Bodejo's family members expressed disbelief over his rearrest by the DSS, despite having completed his bail conditions, contending that the security forces' actions were contradictory to the rule of law.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had granted Bodejo bail in the amount of ₦2bn on July 20, in connection with his ongoing trial for alleged $2.63m money laundering. Bodejo was initially charged by the EFCC on July 9, on multiple counts of money laundering involving approximately $2.63m, at which point he pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Despite the court's ruling, Bodejo remained in detention until his bail conditions were met by his legal team on Wednesday. His wife, Hajiya Hauwa Bodejo, recounted the family's efforts to secure their husband's release, stating that the DSS forcibly took him away from the EFCC headquarters as the family attempted to negotiate his release.

Hauwa further lamented the deteriorating health condition of her husband, who had been under arrest for three months, with his personal physician denied access to him since his initial apprehension.
