Falconets edge W’Cup hosts Poland 1-0 in friendly

Nigeria's U-20 women's football team secured a 1-0 victory over hosts Poland in a friendly match at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, Poland on Friday. The lone goal of the game was scored by Mary Mamudu in the dying moments of the first half, providing a much-needed morale-boost for the team ahead of their opening match in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Despite trailing at halftime, Nigeria held on to their slender advantage to come out on top, a win that bodes well for their preparations for the tournament. The team, who arrived in Poland earlier this week, will face the Republic of Korea in their second and final friendly match before turning their focus to the World Cup. Nigeria, who have been runner-ups at the U-20 Women’s World Cup twice, will kick off their campaign against Spain on September 7, followed by matches against China PR and New Caledonia. The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be held in Poland from September 5th to 27th, 2026.
