Enphase (ENPH) is Preparing for the End of Dutch Net Metering. Will It Boost Batteries or Hurt Solar Demand?

Enphase Energy (ENPH) is gearing up for the end of Dutch net metering on January 1, 2027. Existing solar systems will no longer benefit from the current arrangement, making self-consumption more valuable and creating a battery opportunity for the company. Almost half a million Dutch homeowners already use Enphase's solar systems, providing a large pool of prospects for adding storage.

The company expects to host over 300 homeowner events and webinars in 2026 to generate leads. Enphase is also onboarding installers and connecting homeowners with financing options, including the government-backed Warmtefonds program. However, the policy change may weaken demand for new solar-only installations, as customers facing a higher combined solar-and-battery purchase price may delay installations.

Enphase has not provided specific data on battery orders, average system size, or expected revenue, making it difficult to gauge the financial impact of the policy change.
