Dog survives surgery after being shot by neighbour in Kamphaeng Phet

KAMPHAENG PHET — On 26 August 2026, a municipal worker has been accused of shooting a neighbour's dog after it trespassed onto a nearby property in Khlong Lan district, according to CCTV footage. The seven-month-old Thai breed dog, named Khai Nui, was shot around 17:30 on Wednesday, according to its owner. She recounted that the dog cried out in agony and was transported over 30 kilometres to a veterinary clinic in Kamphaeng Phet town.

Emergency surgery was performed, during which a 9mm bullet lodged in the dog's neck was removed. The dog is currently recuperating.

The dog's owner later scrutinized the CCTV footage and identified a 50-year-old neighbour, who is employed by Khlong Lan Phatthana Subdistrict Municipality, as the likely shooter. She reported the incident to Khlong Lan Police Station on 27 August, submitting the CCTV footage and the bullet extracted during the surgery as evidence.

Initially, the suspect denied the accusation, but ultimately surrendered to the police and confessed to having fired the shot. The owner stated that the man denied possessing the weapon but later admitted to having discarded it. Police conducted a search for the firearm but have not yet located it.

The suspect reportedly placed what is believed to be a firearm in his waistband before departing the scene of the shooting, according to the dog's owner. She expressed feeling unsafe as she resides with her two children while her husband is away working abroad. She questioned why the neighbour had not attempted to communicate with her regarding the dog's trespassing, instead opting to resort to violence. Police are currently collecting evidence and preparing the case for prosecution.
