Disu Deploys Rescue Team to Borgu After Abduction, Catholic Bishops Decry Attacks

Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has dispatched a rescue team to Niger State in response to the abduction of numerous individuals from several villages within Borgu Local Government Area. The team, led by Assistant Inspector General of Police Victor Olaiya, includes personnel from the tactical unit, counter-terrorism squad, Director of State Security Services, and military forces.

Coordinator Maurice Magaji of the newly established Niger State Security Situation Room confirmed that the government has supplied all necessary logistics for the operation.

The situation room comprises the State Director of DSS and the Commissioner of Police. Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun stated that the rescue operation commenced yesterday, and all available resources were deployed to expedite the recovery of the victims. Abiodun denied the assertion that there was no police presence in the affected communities, urging patience as the rescue process is delicate to save lives.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has expressed deep concern over the recent violence plaguing the country. The bishops condemned the abduction of more than 60 Muslim worshippers from a mosque in Borgu, Niger State, and a massacre in Ukum, Benue State, which left 47 people dead and 17 critically injured. The CBCN President, Most Rev. Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, called for the immediate, safe release of the abducted worshippers, aligning themselves with the Muslim community and praying for their swift return.
