Disagreements within unity govt should be handled internally, says Zaliha [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: In an interview on the New Straits Times podcast Beyond the Headlines, PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa emphasized the importance of handling sensitive disagreements within the unity government behind closed doors. According to Zaliha, airing such disputes publicly could jeopardize the stability of the coalition.

She noted that while disagreements are inevitable, the manner in which they are managed and communicated is crucial for maintaining public confidence. Zaliha stressed that certain issues, particularly those related to organizational discipline, should be addressed internally rather than publicly, as they could potentially disrupt the coalition's cohesion.

She pointed out that the integrity and intelligence of leaders play a critical role in absorbing internal tensions without spilling over into the public sphere. Furthermore, Zaliha stressed the importance of effective communication and engagement with the public, as addressing the concerns of diverse segments of society is essential for the unity government's durability.

She expressed concern that a repeat of the political turbulence witnessed during the Covid-19 pandemic, when there were frequent changes in prime ministers, could have a detrimental impact on national stability.
