Deepal S05 REEV revealed in South Africa as Changan expands electrified line-up

South Africa witnessed a significant expansion of Changan's electrified vehicle lineup as the company unveiled the Deepal S05 REEV and Uni-S HEV at the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami. The Deepal S05, a mid-sized SUV, differs from its larger sibling S07 by utilizing a range-extender technology instead of a fully electric powertrain.

The S05 REEV relies on a 1.5-litre petrol engine purely as a generator, with a single electric motor of 160kW and 320Nm propelling the vehicle via a 27kWh battery. Changan asserts that the S05 can cover over 1,000km on a combined cycle, offering up to 200km of pure electric driving, and highlights its ability to fast-charge in just 20 minutes.

The four-wheel-drive SUV provides four driving modes: Comfort, Eco, Sport, and Custom, and comes standard with a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 14-speaker sound system, wireless smartphone charging, and advanced safety features such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. The Uni-S HEV, a hybrid version of Changan's mid-sized SUV, combines a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 166kW and 290Nm to the front wheels.

With a fuel consumption rating of 4.0 litres/100km, the Uni-S HEV offers a choice between CL and CE specifications, featuring 18-inch or 19-inch wheels, and advanced safety systems including Level 2 driver assistance, adaptive cruise control, and a 540-degree camera system. The cabin boasts microfibre leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
