CNE grants 81-year-old superfan free lifetime access to the fair

Barbara Jean Batten, an 81-year-old enthusiast of the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), has been granted complimentary access to the annual fair for the rest of her life. This generous gesture stems from Batten's unwavering commitment to attending the event annually, dating back to her birth. Her connection to the festival runs deep, with her father competing in music competitions at the CNE during the 1930s.

Batten's daughter, Lisa Carruthers, and sister, Elaine Darwin, both laud the significance of this gesture, highlighting the cherished family moments and the resilience Batten has shown throughout her life. Mark Holland, the CNE CEO and president, emphasized that Batten's 81 years embody more than just the joy of attending the fair; they represent countless shared experiences and the bonds of family.

Darwin shared that Batten's sister, Donna, wished to visit the Ex one last time before her passing, underscoring the profound emotional value these events hold. The CNE plans to continue extending this special treatment to other long-standing attendees, promising more golden tickets in the future.
