Chatsworth community leaders draw parallels between toddler’s death and Baby Jamie case

Community leaders in Chatsworth have drawn comparisons between the recent death of a three-year-old girl and the Baby Jamie case, which occurred in 2014. The toddler's mother, a 26-year-old woman from Westcliff, has been charged with murder, assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm, and child neglect. She initially told police that the child died from a fall in the bathroom, but post-mortem examination revealed the girl had endured a month of torture and abuse, and did not receive medical treatment during her time with her mother.

Two of the girl's siblings are now in care, while the youngest remains breastfeeding. Community leaders, including Dr. Brandon Pillay and Pastor Anita Ramdhanie, are calling for stronger child-protection measures and accountability from those who have turned a blind eye to incidents of child abuse. They are urging the community to act more swiftly and collectively to protect vulnerable children.
