Bulls Planning Analyst Rotation to Replace Late Stacey King

The Chicago Bulls are planning to rotate analysts on their CHSN telecasts in place of the late Stacey King, according to Front Office Sports. King, a three-time champion with the team in the 1990s, called games for the Bulls for 19 seasons before his death at 59 earlier this year. Robbie Hummel, a former Purdue standout, is among those being considered for the analyst rotation.

Known for his work as a college basketball commentator, Hummel has previously filled in for the Bulls. The analysts in the rotation are expected to be well-known to Bulls fans. A Bulls spokesperson declined to comment, while the Chicago Sun-Times reported mutual interest between Hummel and the Bulls, but suggested he may not be able to take the job full-time due to national commitments.

The move to use an analyst rotation this season alongside play-by-play broadcaster Adam Amin makes sense for the Bulls for several reasons. King was such a beloved figure that succeeding him would be challenging, and having multiple analysts allows the Bulls to determine the best fit. Additionally, the pay scale for announcers on regional sports networks has decreased due to the decline of cable and satellite subscribers, while NBA players have made significant fortunes.

Thus, it is unlikely that someone like Joakim Noah, another beloved player, would be willing to work 70+ dates at current rates.
