Bongani Baloyi named MK Party’s Joburg candidate as other metro contenders unveiled

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has selected its mayoral candidates for six of the eight metropolitan areas throughout South Africa. In the city of Johannesburg, Bongani Baloyi has been chosen as the party's candidate for the mayoral position. Zandile Hlophe-Mkhwanazi will represent the MKP in eThekwini, while Thulani Shongwe will be the party's representative in Ekurhuleni.

Mapaseka Mothibi is set to be the mayoral candidate for Mangaung, Mzwandile Vaaibom is the candidate for Buffalo City, and Mvuleni Mapu will serve as the MKP's mayoral candidate for Nelson Mandela Bay. Sibonelo Nomvalo, the party's Secretary-General, stated that all the chosen candidates have solid records and are well-equipped to fulfill their duties.

However, nominations for Cape Town and Tshwane are still pending. The party also defended its recent decision to expel two senior members, MPs Dr Hanyisile Litchfield – Tshabalala and Pumlani Kubukeli, from the organization. Nomvalo explained that this action was in accordance with the party's constitution, emphasizing that those involved must take responsibility for their actions.

He also noted that individuals expelled from the party often attempt to gain public sympathy and make false accusations when confronted.
