Bodies of three missing females found in pond in Gujrat

GUJRAT: Police have discovered the bodies of a woman, her minor daughter, and teenage sister in a pond following their disappearance on Tuesday in Dinga town, Gujrat district. Shaukat Ali of Mohallah Mai Da Dera reported the missing persons to the Dinga police, stating that his daughter Arooj Fatima (21), her two-year-old daughter Rakoo Fatima, and his daughter Haleema Sadia (15) visited Arooj's in-laws in Chargah Lokri around 11:30am on August 25.

Ali suspected they might have been kidnapped, prompting the police to register a case and commence investigations.

On Wednesday, Dinga Rescue 1122 received information about dead bodies found in a pond, leading the police to the location. The bodies were retrieved from an open field that had transformed into a pond due to stagnant rainwater. The bodies were subsequently transferred to the Kharian THQ hospital for autopsy, and the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) arrived at the scene to gather evidence.

Officials from Gujrat DPO Faisal Shahzad, Superintendent of Police investigation Hafiz Imtiaz Ahmed, Kharian Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Shair, and others visited the site to inspect the circumstances.

DPO expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into the case. Initial investigations indicated that the deaths were likely caused by drowning. The Gujrat Police provided this report to Dawn on August 28th, 2026.
