Bodies of four Naga civilians killed in Manipur ambush retrieved

On August 28, 2026, the bodies of four Naga civilians were retrieved from an ambush site in Manipur's Kangpokpi district, officials announced. The attackers had struck around 8:30 a.m. on August 27, 2026, when a vehicle carrying civilians was ambushed between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga villages. The victims, whose deaths were confirmed by security forces, included the principal of a private school, Tadsongbou Ringkangmai.

Another individual, Gaikamang Ringkangmai, was injured in the ambush. The victims all belonged to the Liangmai Naga community. The United Naga Council, representing the Naga community, accused two militant groups - Kuki National Front (P) and Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) - of carrying out the attack. Security forces had initially attempted to retrieve the bodies on the evening of the attack but were blocked by alleged disruptions along the route.

On August 28, a security team reached the site and took the bodies to Senapati district headquarters.
