Bhopal’s AIIMS Gives 9-Month-Old Gift Of Hearing With Advanced Cochlear Implants

Bhopal's AIIMS has performed a groundbreaking cochlear implant surgery on a 9-month-old child, making history as the youngest recipient in Central India and the first in Madhya Pradesh to receive the latest-generation technology. The advanced procedure utilized a specialized monitoring system called SmartNav, which provided real-time feedback during the delicate surgery.

This ensured precise electrode placement and successful completion of the operation. Following the surgery, the child's cochlear implant device will be activated and programmed, followed by structured auditory rehabilitation to help the child develop hearing abilities and support speech and language development in the future. Premature birth, neonatal intensive care unit treatment, and meningitis complications led to the child's hearing loss, underscoring the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment to prevent further damage and support future development.
