Ben Johnson sounds off on Bears rookie Dillon Thieneman's work ethic

Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson expressed admiration for rookie safety Dillon Thieneman's work ethic and dedication to his craft. Despite being expected to slip through the draft, the Bears secured Thieneman with the 25th overall pick. Thieneman, known for his keen awareness of the quarterback, impressive football IQ, and ability to track passes, had an impressive college career with over 300 tackles, eight interceptions (including six in his freshman year), and ten tackles for loss.

While Thieneman's demeanor differs from his more vocal teammates like Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, and Tyrique Stevenson, coach Johnson finds his methodical approach commendable. He describes Thieneman as "a little bit robotic" in his approach to the game, but insists it's a positive trait. Johnson emphasized that he doesn't even know what Thieneman's voice sounds like, highlighting his focus on getting the job done.

The coach is pleased with Thieneman's progress throughout training camp and preseason, including an interception of Joe Burrow in a joint practice with the Cincinnati Bengals. Chicago's preseason concludes with a game against the Tennessee Titans on August 29th, followed by their regular season opener against the Carolina Panthers on September 13th.
