Bandar Kuching MP activates aid for households affected by Thursday’s storm

KUCHING, Aug 28: Households in Bandar Kuching affected by severe winds on Thursday can now apply for disaster relief assistance, following activation by MP Dr Kelvin Yii's service centre. The program covers affected residents in Pending, Batu Lintang and Padungan constituencies. Yii explained that the initiative was prompted by reports of numerous homes sustaining significant damage, including roofs blown off or severely compromised, disrupting residents' daily lives.

In Kenyalang, older residential houses were notably impacted, with roofs failing to withstand the strong winds. For those affected, the damage has created urgent concerns such as water leaks and safety issues that demand immediate attention, Yii emphasized in a statement. Yii's team, alongside assemblywomen Violet Yong and Chong Chieng Jen, conducted site visits to evaluate the damage and comprehend residents' struggles.

Eligible applicants must reside within the Bandar Kuching parliamentary constituency and possess voter status there. Required documentation includes a copy of the homeowner's MyKad, recent electricity or water bill, and photographs depicting the roof and property damage. In the case of a deceased homeowner, a death certificate along with an application from a surviving family member, plus the other necessary documents, is sufficient.
